What does it mean to be a polished woman? For me, I think of elegance, class, and high maintenance ( not in the typical fashion of high maintenance you might be thinking of). This post really should be a series of posts and I may just do that. But for now, we are going to explore the three main segments you should focus on to become more polished.
- Communication
- Appearance
- Etiquette
Communication
Polished women can effectively communicate. Communication is one of the most important aspects of any type of relationship. Due to society brainwashing women in a sense of prioritizing romantic partnerships, we often fall victim to neglecting the platonic ones. Platonic friendships, business partnerships, family, and relationships with ourselves are examples of ways in which we have to communicate. Interpersonal communication is the exchange of verbal and non-verbal communication with two or more parties. On the other hand, there is a such thing as intrapersonal communication.
Working on your non-verbal cues during conversation can often involve confidence.
Communication improvements can be:
- Non-verbal cues
- Confidence physical and mental
- Emotional intelligence
- Public speaking
- Increasing Vocabulary
- Speech therapy
- Listening / active listening
- Conversational etiquette
Polished Appearance
One of the most important areas when you are making a first impression with someone will be your appearance. Before communicating verbally and non-verbally how you appear to others can help or hurt you. Polished women appear more confident. We never know the silent battles people are fighting, but women who can physically seem more confident demand the room without having to audibly do so.
Appearance is comprised of factors like clothing, hair, skincare, nails, and makeup (if you wear it, not required all the time).
Clothing; Everyone is entitled to their style, but clothing should fit properly no matter your size. Clothing that fits properly will make you feel better and will cause you to radiate confidence. Knowing your style, and getting to know things you like and don’t like with colors to compliment your skin tone will allow you to own whatever space you are in.
Dressing for your body type can be complicated, but here is a cheat sheet.
Normally, polished women are not interested in showing off their bodies in a provocative manner, something in which I struggled with.
Oddly enough, my moving to DC has taught me that elevated clothing puts you in rooms and warrants the attention, we often want. Once I started dressing a certain way I no longer got the gaze of the type of men that are not for me. Depending on your age and location, you may struggle with this as well. My advice is to frequent places where women are dressed like Olivia Pope from Scandal, Jessica Pearson from Suits, and Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada.
My cardinal rule is to dress for where you want to go and how you want to be addressed. That being said, if you are invited out to a place like the club do not feel like you have to look like you are about to attend church.
Things you can do today:
- Bag up clothes that no longer fit ( give them to a shelter or consignment store)
- Research various styles and decide which of those you like
- Make a vision board of the types of clothes you want to wear (can be digital or physical)
- Separate clothes you can tailor to fit your body for an elevated look
- Make a list of influential women and their style
Etiquette:
My mom would always say, ” It costs nothing to have manners”
There is no excuse for being rude, disrespectful, or loud to your personality. Kindness is available to everyone. The foundation of Etiquette is respect, honesty, and consideration.
If you focus on those three attributes, the other things will become easier. It is no secret that there are different social norms throughout the world and within the United States. The beauty of learning Etiquette is that it is evolving and may change depending on your geological location.
Introduction to etiquette can be found on my TikTok playlist. It covers dating tips, party etiquette, wine, and more!
