Stuck in between getting things done and slowing things down? A balanced life is a happy life. Depending on where you live and the cultural norms in that area moving fast might be the way of life. This post will help you implement ten small changes to slow down and enjoy living.
10 essentials for slow living for a balanced life.
No. 1 Wake up early
Wake up 2-3 hours earlier than you are supposed to. Leave enough time for a routine of your choice. Studies show that people who wake up early have more success and can maximize their day.
Growing up, I was never much of a morning girl. I loved staying in bed, especially on crisp fall mornings. Little by little, I changed my alarm to wake up earlier in small increments. Once I graduated college and went into the workforce, I had a long commute and was forced to wake up at 4:30am.
If you have a hard time getting up, try changing your alarm 30 mins earlier every couple of weeks.
No. 2 Spend time in nature
One of the most underrated things to do! Go outside!!
Spend time in God’s creation, and visit your area’s historic parks. Time in nature decreases stress and relieves anxiety. Remember to underestimate the power of walking. Aim to get at least 6k-10k steps a day.
At one point, I wanted to lose weight so badly that I worked out twice a day. I was not losing much weight and did not understand why. After talking to my trainer, he found I was not getting enough steps. During the quarantine period, I fell in love with walking outside.
No. 3 Digital Detox
Activate your screen time and monitor it!
Outside of Facetime, the best feature Apple created was screen time. Study your screen time, set limits for the day, or go for an all-around detox. Even if it is just a day, overconsumption of media can take a toll on your attention span, mental health, and all-around expectations for life.
Live in the moment and be present when you are out with loved ones. One of the best ways to do this is to put down your phone!
As a content creator, this concept has taken me years to realize. Not everything has to be recorded or snapped.
No. 4 Find a hobby
After moving from the south to what I consider the north, Washington, DC. I realized that the more north you go in the United States, the fewer hobbies women seem to have. They talk about work at all hours of the day.
It is essential for women to have an identity outside of work, an outlet that allows them to decompress.
A hobby is something that you enjoy doing that does not make you money. If you need help trying to find pne, check out this list of feminine hobbies.
No. 5 Prioritize self-care
I know the entire internet is talking about self-care but self-care is more than just beauty maintenance. Caring for yourself is in every aspect of our lives. Self-care can be financial, spiritual, mental and physical.
Write down each bucket and at least one thing in each category.
Mental self-care can be as easy as setting new boundaries with people in your life.
Beauty maintenance is within the physical self-care category, and there are many ways to achieve it with every financial budget. For more tips, check out my baddies on a budget video.
